What is the Best Waterproof Blanket for Adults?
25 January 2026 by Banana Passion
The best waterproof blanket for adults is one that combines serious absorbency, certified skin safety, and a truly waterproof core, all without sacrificing comfort, softness, or discretion. Banana Passion waterproof blankets are designed in Australia, refined through real-world use, and engineered to perform beautifully as a part of adult life.
Material properties like softness and texture can really add to your mood, with our blankets nicely finished for a premium feel.
A brief origin story (and why it matters)
Banana Passion began as a baby brand. That origin matters because it meant starting with the highest standards for safety, softness, and skin contact.
What changed was the use case.
When customers began buying the blankets for adult use, the product was intentionally adapted and upgraded, not simply repurposed. Absorbency, durability, size, and discretion were all re‑engineered to meet adult needs, while keeping the same uncompromising approach to safety and comfort.
What actually makes a waterproof blanket “the best” for adults
A high‑performing adult waterproof blanket must do three things exceptionally well:
- Absorb, not just block liquid
- Protect surfaces underneath completely
- Feel comfortable on bare skin
Banana Passion addresses all three through thoughtful material design.
OEKO‑TEX® certified & skin‑safe
Banana Passion blankets are made using OEKO‑TEX® Standard 100 certified materials, meaning every component is tested for harmful substances.
This is especially important for products used:
- On bare skin
- For extended periods
- During intimate moments
The result goes beyond basic protection; it provides peace of mind.
Advanced absorbency (no puddles)
Unlike basic waterproof throws that simply repel liquid, Banana Passion blankets are engineered to absorb liquids.
The internal structure draws moisture away from the surface and holds it securely, preventing:
- Pooling in one spot
- Spreading along the surface
- Leaks through to the mattress, sofa, or floor
This is what allows the blanket to stay comfortable and functional at the same time.
Why Banana Passion uses 0.02 Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)
At the core of every Banana Passion blanket is a 0.02 TPU laminated waterproof film, chosen deliberately for performance, safety, and longevity.
TPU is used because it is:
- Durable – resists scratches, impacts, and everyday wear;
- Safe – food‑safe, 100% recyclable, and biodegradable;
- Clean – repels stains, moisture, and bacteria;
- Flexible – soft, shock‑absorbing, and comfortable (never stiff or plastic‑like, and certainly not that plastic crinkly feeling).
This ultra‑thin TPU layer creates a reliable waterproof barrier without noise, crunch, or rigidity.
Single-sided or double-sided?
Single-sided protection
Banana Passion used to sell quick drying waterproof blankets that were single sided. However, we noticed at times these will move because the backside was smooth. While it was waterproof factor, this movement meant customers were busy adjusting it. So we designed a quick drying blanket that stays put: Gripme Waterproof Blankets. Just as quick to dry but without the sliding and bunching up, thanks to a new silicon dots-layered backside.
Single-sided fleece blankets have several benefits:
- Easy to wash, quick to dry;
- Optimised for use and re-use;
- Easily washed, easy to pack;
- Compact and perfect for travelling.
Double‑sided protection
Banana Passion velvety waterproof blankets are fully double‑sided, meaning:
- Either side can be used;
- Protection is the same on both sides;
- There’s no “wrong” way to place the blanket;
- Can do a double duty as a regular throw.
This makes them intuitive, practical, and ideal for real‑life use.
Our blankets stay flat, soft, and quiet
When cared for correctly, Banana Passion blankets:
- Stay flat;
- Remain soft;
- Never develop a crunchy or plastic feel.
They are designed to be washed, reused, and relied on, without degrading in comfort.
