Massage Candle in a Double-Walled Glass Jar
Melts into Warm Body Oil
Blend
Product description
A massage candle is a candle you pour onto skin. This one is hand-poured in Sydney from soy wax, shea butter and cold-pressed jojoba, and it melts at around 40°C, warm enough to feel like a hot oil massage, never hot enough to scald. Light it, let a pool form for about 30 minutes, blow it out, and pour. 85g, in a double-walled glass jar with a built-in spout.
Why the glass jar matters
The outer wall never touches the melted oil, so it stays cool in your hand while the inner cup is still liquid. Which means you can pick it up the moment you blow the flame out, instead of waiting for a single-wall jar to become safe to hold.
The built-in spout pours a controlled line instead of a slick. Which means it goes where you aimed it, on a back, not on the sheets.

This isn’t just a candle, it’s a massage oil that arrives warm in a jar built to pour. Here’s why our Massage Candle in a Double-Walled Glass Jar stands out:
- Two products, one jar: Light it while you run the bath and pour it when you’re ready. No cold bottle, no sticky lid, nothing that makes you stop.
- A jar you can hold straight away: The double wall keeps the outer glass cool while the inner cup melts, so you can pick it up the moment you blow the flame out, not five minutes later.
- A pour you can aim: The built-in spout gives you a controlled line instead of a slick, so it goes where you meant it to go — on a back rather than on the sheets.
- Warm, never hot: Soy wax cut with shea butter and jojoba melts at around 40°C, roughly bath temperature. A standard scented candle burns at 50–65°C and would scald.
- Skin-safe by the numbers: Essential oils blended at 1.5%, the leave-on limit for a body product. Many massage candles run a candle-industry 5–10% load that was never formulated for skin.
- Hand-poured in Sydney: Made here in small batches, with the essential oils weighed rather than measured.
Choose the Massage Candle in a Double-Walled Glass Jar to turn a long evening into something you both slow down for.
Handmade from:
- Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil — soy wax base
- Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter
- Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
- Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil.
Vanilla adds: Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Fruit Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil.
Sacred Wood adds: Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Cedrus Atlantica (Cedarwood) Bark Oil, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense) Oil, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Leaf Oil.
What each one is doing
- Soy wax: The base. On its own it melts at 46–51°C, too hot for skin — cutting it with the butter and oils below brings the pool down to around 40°C.
- Shea butter: Melts at 32–38°C. It’s the richness you feel as the oil goes on, and the reason it conditions rather than just coats.
- Jojoba oil: The closest plant oil to skin’s own sebum, so it absorbs instead of sitting on the surface. We use it rather than sweet almond because it keeps for two years, not six months.
- Castor oil: A humectant — it draws moisture into the skin. It’s also the best scent binder of any liquid oil, which is how a 1.5% blend still carries.
- Essential oils, at 1.5%: The leave-on body-safe limit. We weigh them to a hundredth of a gram, because at this dose the difference between safe and not is small.
No paraffin, no synthetic fragrance, no dyes.
The first burn
- Stand the jar on a heat-resistant surface, away from fabric, children and pets.
- Light it and let the pool reach the edges, about 30 minutes. Getting a full pool on the first burn is what stops it tunnelling for the rest of its life.
- Trim the wick to 6mm before every burn after this one.
The pour
- Blow out the flame and wait a moment.
- Patch-test on the inside of your wrist, not the back of your hand, the skin there is closest to the skin you’re about to pour on. It should feel pleasantly warm. If it stings, stop.
- Pour from the spout into your hands, or onto the body from at least 30cm.
- Work it in while it’s warm. It absorbs rather than sitting on the surface, so you need less than you think.
Afterwards
- Let the wax reset before you move the jar.
- It’s an oil, so pour over a towel or a waterproof blanket. If it reaches fabric, wash warm with a liquid detergent and no fabric softener.
Care instructions
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Best used within 18 months.
- For external use only. Avoid eyes, face, and broken or irritated skin.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Caution if pregnant or breastfeeding. Always patch-test before first use, and discontinue if any reaction occurs.

How to use a massage candle?

- Light the candle for a minimum of 30 minutes to allow enough oil to form (and it’ll help set the mood).
- Blow out the candle, the melted oil is ready to use.
- You can either pour the oil directly onto the skin, or apply with your fingertips and massage it in. The light velvety texture will moisturise and absorb into the skin, and can be reapplied as desired.
Care instructions
- To extinguish your candle, gently blow out the flame. A wick snuffer works great, too. Never attempt to extinguish a candle using water.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.
- Follow the 2-foot rule – don’t place a burning candle within two feet of clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable. Trim the wick to 5mm each time the candle is lit.
- Place burning candles at least 10cm apart from one another.
Frequently asked questions
Is a massage candle safe to pour on skin?
This one is, because of what it’s made from. It melts to about 40°C, roughly bath temperature. A standard scented candle burns at 50–65°C and most likely to burn you. Never pour an ordinary candle on skin; they are different products. Always patch-test on the inside of your wrist first.
Is this the candle that turns into massage oil?
Yes. The wax itself is the massage oil, soy, shea butter and jojoba, formulated to melt at a temperature you can pour straight onto skin. There is no separate oil and no second product.
How long before it’s ready to pour?
About 30 minutes for a full, even pool.
Will it stain sheets?
It’s an oil, so treat it like one. Yes it can stain sheets if directly poured on them. Always best to have a towel or our waterproof blanket, if you don’t want to stain your sheets.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
The Sacred Wood blend contains patchouli and frankincense. We'd suggest checking with your midwife or GP before using any essential-oil product during pregnancy, and patch-testing regardless.
Can I just burn it as a normal candle?
Yes. The double-walled jar holds heat in, so a smaller wick melts the full surface without tunnelling, which is why it burns slowly and evenly. Just know the scent is gentle by design: at 1.5% essential oil it scents a room softly rather than strongly, because that is the limit for something you put on skin.
Is it made in Australia?
Yes, hand-poured in Sydney in small batches, with the essential oils blended by weight at 1.5%.
